Eighteen years ago I began painting the Western way of life and the landscape around it.
It was a big change from my thirty year financial career. I had always loved to paint and
did periodically.
Sam is a typical cowboy, or was until until he grew too old for the hard physical stuff, but the ranch
owner liked him and gave him a job visiting the line camps scattered in the Dakota hills
on his ranch and the neighbors as well. He delivered the mail and necessary supplies until
trucks eventually took over.
The cowboy life style and culture was built on age-old principles where
people relied on one another for support and help. It was an exciting life, hard and at times dangerous.
But it worked and collectively they built another level of progress for us to build on. I would like
to see those values of honesty, truth, cooperation and common sense somehow injected into our
world today. We really need it.
